2003 (53) BMW M3 CSL - Same owner from New

BMW Motorsport built 1,383 examples of a singular, uncompromising vision: the E46 M3 CSL (Coupé Sport Leichtbau).

Stripped of 110 kg compared to the standard M3, the CSL remains a masterclass in motorsport engineering. Featuring BMW’s first-ever carbon fibre reinforced plastic roof, a carbon air-box that produces one of the most legendary induction roars in automotive history and an upgraded 360 hp S54 inline-six known as the S54B32HP (HP means High-Performance).

Every detail on the CSL was designed with singular intent: total driver engagement. From the alcantara-wrapped steering wheel to the carbon fibre centre console and deep bucket seats, it offers a raw, analog connection to the road that modern supercars simply cannot replicate.

Whether taking pride of place in a collection or slicing through mountain passes on a crisp Sunday morning, the E46 M3 CSL represents the absolute high-water mark of BMW's golden era. On the outside, the CSL can be identified by numerous details, such as the special door sills, the curved spoiler lip on the boot lid and, of course, the addition of those three special letters on its rear. The single ‘porthole’ on one side of the front apron, which gives the engine the necessary oxygen by means of an enlarged intake air duct, is also very striking and unique to this model.

Enthusiasts don't even need to see the details that make the M3 CSL so unique, given that above all it is best known for the unmistakable and instantly recognisable sound emanating from its two twin tailpipes. A sports car that was still highly suitable for everyday use, it came off the production line in two exclusive colour options: Sapphire Black and Silver Grey.

The interior of the E46 M3 CSL is a focused, spartan workspace designed entirely around weight reduction and driver connection with Fixed-Back Bucket Seats: Lightweight reinforced  bucket seats trimmed in Amaretta (suede-like Alcantara) and fabric; Exposed Carbon Fibre: The centre console is crafted from lightweight carbon fibre reinforced plastic, completely eliminating the centre armrest, leather console wrap and storage compartments found in the standard E46 M3; Minimalist Steering Wheel: Wrapped in Alcantara with a single single-function button for M Track Mode, which relaxes the Dynamic Stability Control intervention threshold, all standard steering wheel audio and cruise control buttons were removed; Lightweight Door Cards: Simplified composite door cards trimmed with integrated carbon fibre weave inserts and minimalist door handles. Factory Comfort Deletions: Air conditioning and the radio/stereo system were deleted as standard equipment to shed weight, though both could be optioned back as no-cost additions when ordering from the factory, Thinner Glass & Reduced Insulation: Sound insulation was drastically reduced throughout the cabin, allowing the iconic induction roar from the carbon airbox to flood the interior directly through the bulkhead.

This CSL was ordered new from Chandlers Worthing BMW (we have the original invoice) in Silver Grey in November 2003 with Air Conditioning and BMW Business Radio. It was also ordered new with the 0792 BMW 19" LA Wheel M Forged alloys making this a very unique and rare CSL specification. Other features include Tinted Windscreen (the original with running in sticker) and Floor Mats. The V5 show's two owners, but it is the same driver who bought it out of his company. We have the complete original toolkit, compressor and first aid kit.

This CSL is a time capsule and everything feels looks original and it has original paint and it even sits on the original tyres. It has been stored as part of a large collection for some time and has only covered 169 miles since 2012. We have just had an Inspection II service including tappet adjustment, gearbox oil, differential oil, coolant and brake fluid change carried out by Basingstoke BMW. This car has only been serviced after by BMW, predominately by Vines Gatwick. An enthusiasts dream and a car worthy of any collection.
